We finally have a release date for the most interesting thing to come out of the console industry in a significant amount of time – the Nintendo Wii. While Microsoft and Sony are trying to make things look pretty and cost a fortune, Nintendo are doing interesting things with online content and accelerometers.

The downside is we, as always, get screwed. We pay the most (£179, or US$278 without VAT) and get it last (December 8th, a day after the Australians) while USians get it the cheapest (US$250) and the fastest (November). And it looks even worse in Euroland – prices are the same in euro as in US dollars, despite the exchange rate being 1:1.26. Ouch.

But it does look like a lot of fun, and is coming with Wii Sports – your chance to play gold and tennis on the Wii and wreck the living room in the process. The only problem is December is so far away and stocks will undoubtedly fly out the doors. Oh, the troubles in my life…
