While the rest of the country (bar tourists) were tied up watching the football we decided to go and have some tea at the Tea Palace in Notting Hill.
It has a wonderful selection – many, many fine teas and, just to ensure you don’t try them all at once, it’s on the expensive side (£3.50-£7.00 for a small pot… a pint generally comes in around £3 in London). But they do give you a small plate of leaves, and the food is excellent – they had some lovely chilled lime & cucumber soup that really hit the spot – and quite reasonably priced. So certainly a very pleasant treat.
The downside – half the tube is down for scheduled maintenance, so it was a somewhat roundabout trip to get there, and given it’s 30C outside the place is crawling with tourists. And of course we all know (or can imagine) what those temperatures do to the [uncooled] tube… ah, the trials of life.
