Well, it’s been a busy week.

I’ve been unhappy with my current role for a while. While my employer has a excellent work environment, and has always treated me very well, we’re trying to build software on a framework which should never have seen the light of day. And since there’s upper-management buy-in to this framework we aren’t having any luck with replacing it with something more useful. And so I went job hunting.

My previous experience of job hunting in the UK was that it was a slow process. By the time you had beaten your way through 2 or 3 interviews you had probably gone through the better part of a month (or 3 months in the case of Google). However, I spotted an interesting position on Wednesday. I met the recruiter on Thursday, had 3 interviews for different positions on Monday evening/Tuesday morning, had a second interview with one company on Wednesday and another second booked for Thursday. However, JacobsRimmell offered me a job on Wednesday afternoon and I gladly accepted.

So it all looks very exciting. Four weeks to go in my current role (which means I miss the release party about three weeks after that, not to mention yearly bonuses, but such is life) and then off to play with Java in the cable/telco arena. It looks really exciting, even if it will be a bit harder work. And, of all the odd things, the development overlord is a Wellingtonian. It’s a small world.
