It’s a sad day. While you do spot a shocking amount of people on the Tube reading the Sun (presumably they’re confused and think it’s a newspaper) there was some hope remaining that there were some papers worth reading within the bounds of the M25. Unfortunately, an Evening Standard headline tonight – X-Factor winner’s rapist father! – casts serious doubts on this.
Honestly, what is this if not scraping the bottom of the barrel? Yes, the fact that he went on X-Factor means both his taste and talent are in doubt, but what the fuck has he done to be tarred with the sins of his father? Unless he’s been making shrines or glorifying the behaviour of the aforementioned pater then there’s no reason for headlines like this outside the bounds of the crass, sensationalist publications which contain little else (e.g. anything owned by Rupert Murdoch).
And they wonder why people prefer to read online (where at least you don’t have to pay for your biases to be reinforced)…
