Well, we’ve been here for almost two weeks now. I’ve got two final interviews this week, but not until Thursday/Friday. Friday should be fun as it’s actually 5 30 minute interviews with various people. A stamina test perhaps? But fingers crossed it works out as they have an excellent reputation.
Otherwise we’re killing time. Today I’ve occupied my plentiful time while waiting for phone calls in catching up on news in the development arena, watching news about nearby exploding lorries and getting free licences for Opera.
Also today – fighting Quicktime to save movie trailers. Honestly, why is it so hard? I ended up having to eavesdrop on the TCP stream to find out the real URL of the movies. Is there any real reason why we shouldn’t be able to save movie trailers for later playback? Who knows…
I’ve also bought a Linksys WAG354G. Nice toy. Possibly the first Linksys product ever to look even vaguely attractive. Plus it can run Linux. It’s very picky about detecting an ADSL line at present but Don has said his wiring is buggered so I’m blaming that at present.
Speaking of which AOL is a bitch. If you want to avoid major oddities with routers then set your MTU to 1400. Or [preferably] use another ISP.
The weekend was spent investigating the Tower of London and the HMS Belfast. It was kind of vexing to be charged the sort of money you buy countries with for entry only to be met with begging bowls for further funds. Plus we found a 2 for 1 entry to the Belfast in the Sunday Times, a day late. Bugger.
Finally I see things are the same as ever at home. Telecom plan to replace the telephone network with an IP based solution. Neat. Shame they haven’t considered who will pay at the consumers end. Typical really.
