Kirkcaldie, St. Andrews and Edinburgh

We were shamed last week into finally going up north to track down a few more of Polly’s relatives. And so on Tuesday morning we hoped on a bus to Kirkcaldie and soon found ourselves on the north side of the Firth of Forth. Polly’s Aunt actually lives a little way north in Dysart and [...]

The Joys of Britain

Despite the silence we haven’t just been sleeping and cleaning out pantries. We’ve been battling with the finest British bureaucracy and visiting more of Polly’s relatives. The visiting is the more interesting part, mind. Which is why I’ll deal with it in another post. While we managed to get Polly set up with the NHS [...]

A Day in London

Polly had a job interview, somewhat out of the blue. This job interview turned out to be in Plumbton, which is just north of Brighton. Our panicked hunt for transport lead us to coaches in the end and we booked an overnight coach down on Wednesday night and back Thursday. And so we found ourselves [...]

Bouncing Around

Well, we’ve spent a couple of days exploring Glasgow, from it’s underground … er … railway to it’s lovely old buildings and have discovered the Scots have been having us on. It’s 30 degrees, not a cloud in the sky and Polly’s courting sunburn. In Glasgow. Who would have thought? Polly has been busy though [...]

Travels – Epilogue

And so we’ve reached the end of our scheduled travels. Our plans at this end so far consist of sleeping. We’ve adopted somewhat different strategies to this – I’ve stayed up on the hope of beating my body’s clock into submission. Polly went to bed five hours ago and I’ve been able to unpack around [...]

Travels – Day Nine and Ten

It was a joy to wake to civilisation this morning. Despite the relief, however, Polly was not impressed when I dragged her out of bed to go exploring Hong Kong one last time instead of sleeping in. However I won her over by promising waffles and so we leaped onto the tube and headed for [...]

Travels – Day Eight

This turned out to be rather a long day, and certainly one of the most interesting, although I’m not certain I’d describe it all as hugely enjoyable. This was the day we were to spend in the Guandong province of China. And just to get the trip off to a great start we were picked [...]

Travels – Day Seven

The day dawned with Polly blessing the bed with her full approval and us finding ourselves in the baking heat of a crowded street. This wasn’t hugely intentional – the hotel ran a free shuttle bus into town every so often. However, as part of our package we received a free dim sum cooking lesson, [...]

Travels – On photos, or the lack of

As have a lot of photos. About 150, after sorting, of the Barrier Reef and various assorted photos of Cairns (although not too many as I forgot the camera when we went into town) and Hong Kong. These will appear eventually, when I get them sorted. Probably not until we’re in Glasgow though. Stay tuned!

Travels – Day Two

Thanking, for once, the joys of jetlag we arose at the crack of dawn and hauled ourselves outside to meet the ProDive van. We soon found ourselves among a group of 30 other customers, all staring vacantly into space between yawns. Luckily we were shocked out of our half-asleep state by arrival at the boat [...]
