My copy of Mac OS X 10.4 (aka Tiger) arrived this morning. To really make my day Apple also release Java 5 (aka Tiger) for Mac OS. Lovely.
Only downside so far – there’s now a third visual style for Mac OS apps. Consistency be damned. And even worse, Mail’s toolbar has been solidly beaten with the ugly stick. Luckily, help is not too far away.
Also, all the goodness of Quartz 2D Extreme is disabled by default. One presumes this will be activated in 10.4.whatever, once the bugs have been vanquished.
Ars Technica also have a superb (and somewhat lower level than most) review up.
