Well, the wedding has come and gone and I am now a responsbily married man. Possibly.

We were mad enough to start our holiday by driving the 8 hours to Auckland, leaving Wellington at 9pm. Fast trip, but little sleep was had by anyone. Especially by my parents, although it did get them some practice for meeting the various incoming flights from the UK.

We moved up to Paihia fairly quickly to try and get organised. The weather did it’s best to emulate Wellington (whereas Wellington was sunny and calm) and we ended up having the ceremony inside. Worse, our dive trip was cancelled due to the conditions being ‘like snot’. But at least the dive gear got a nice tour of the country. We finally got out after getting back to Wellington. So much for the winterless north.

The Copthorne put on a fantastic spread, the cake was great and everyone said they were having fun. We also tried the new Indian resturant up there (excellent) and Gannets (in Russell) which was sublime. To offset that, we stayed at the Waitomo Hotel on the way home and were given appalling service and vastly overpriced food. But we did get Black Water Rafting and, even better, didn’t get stuck behind any trucks on SH4. Bliss.

So now I’m back in Wellington and Polly’s back in Blenheim and we’re both back at work, convinced it’s over-rated. Shame we need the money…
