It’s been a good couple of weeks for toys.
First up – new cellphone. SonyEricsson T630. Parallel imported by the good people at eTown. Importing is full of benefits = $410 compared to a local price of $600. And I get to avoid the ugly, ugly customisations Voda seem to insist on forcing on customers. Downside is I get a European plug on the charger and some silly TIM customisations (it’s an Italian phone). And best of all, despite being a SonyEricsson it hasn’t broken yet! I swore I’d never buy another SE after the debacles with my T300, but I’m rather chuffed so far.
And Polly’s chuffed with the hand-me-down T300 :-) It’s all good.
And then, despite the ranting and raving of the more pathetic parts of society (the Catholic Church and Destiny Church for instance) the Civil Union bill passed. So now gay and de-facto couples can have their relationships recognised by the government. It’s sad really – NZ was the first country to allow women to vote, but now we’re so conservative that protesters were sending excrement to gay MPs. However a civil union has no real benefits until the accompanying legislation passes to amend all the laws referencing marriage passes. And that’s been delayed until the new year thanks to someone forgetting to add in a time limit before de-facto couples were caught by it. But hopefully, come April, Polly and I will be able to move from that outdated institution the churches are so paranoid about to a civil union. Huzzah!
