I do wonder why Polly puts up with me, especially given last night I went out and spent $2500 on a shiny new iBook. It’s small, gorgeous and very fun to use. But my favourite feature so far – plugged in my Kodak DX4530 and it just worked, unlike WinXP where I had to feck around with the Kodak software to get the digital imaging driver installed. Even better the same applies to my Logitech joypad.
So the current plan is to get rid of the noisy overpowered brick I currently use and just use the laptop with my keyboard, mouse and 19″ monitor. After all, I play very few games these days and my 80Gb HD is half empty (which is handy as the laptop only has a 30Gb drive). The other oddity is that the iBook only supports video mirroring by default (and a max res of 1024×768). Luckily, there’s a patch to get around this.
Am slightly vexed though – the sales people at Harvey Norman were somewhat clueless. I said “512Mb SODIMM”. They heard “256Mb DIMM”. I said “Airport Extreme Card” (WiFi). They tried to sell me a Airport Base Station. And I had to point out to them that they were $200-$300 more expensive than anywhere else, which makes me pitty the luckless comsumer who just buys one without having done their research.
Still waiting for the RAM and WiFi adapter though – perils of buying last thing on a Friday night.
